With over 20 successful years of softball coaching under her belt, Debie Smith heads up one of the two 18 Gold teams for the Sting organization this Fall 2009 season. Most recently, Debie has coached teams to the 2007 14U ASA Nationals, 2008 16U ASA Nationals and 2009 16U ASA Nationals. Recently, Debie's 2009 16U team took 5th place at the prestigious Colorado Boulder tournament. Following upon that success, Debie's 18G team took 7th place at this year's Colorado Independence softbll tournament. Debie's coaching experiences have spanned from the High School level up to Junior College. During her tenure at Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, she has coached her teams to several league titles in the very tough De Anza division
Steve or "Uncle Steve" as he is known, has been with the Sting organization for many years. He is very successful at reading his pitchers and helping them to bring out their best. Most recently, he served as the pitching Coach for Debie Smith's 16U team, whom he helped coach at 14U to a berth to 2007 ASA Nationals and 16U 2009 ASA Nationals.
Joe Gron has coached softball for over 15 years, as well as baseball for another two years. He participated in baseball through Mission College then transitioned into his softball career. Where as a player, Joe participated in 8 World and National Softball tournaments. As a coach, he has participated in numerous ASA National tournaments as well. Joe will serve as Asst. Coach to Haley Woods for the 18 Gold Fall 2010 season.
Frank has been with the San Jose Sting for many years and coached throughout the organization. He coached at the 18G level, helping to guide the team to several 18G ASA National appearances. He also joined Bob Perales in 2009, helping to coach the 14U team to the ASA Nationals. Frank joins Haley Woods and Joe Gron at the Gold level again for the Fall 2010 season.
The Sting welcomes Arnold Tellez. Arnold joins the Sting with over 12 years of coaching experience including 5 trips to the ASA Nationals, top 20 finish at 16U, and a 2nd place and 3rd place at NorCal Metros over the past two years. Just named as head coach of the Presentation High School softball program Arnold will try and replicate his recent success at Gilroy High School where he coached his team to four consecutive CCS appearances including two runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2009. Arnold is known for his team-first philosophy along with his positive and aggressive coaching style.
Also joining the Sting coaching staff is Matt Mlnarik. Matt was the assistant varsity coach at Pioneer High School for the past four years and will be joining Arnold as the pitching coach for Presentation High School beginning this spring. Matt has coached with Arnold over the past three years. In addition to his strong work ethic and dependability, Matt has proven to be a great complement to Arnold in building competitive teams.
Bob Perales is the Organizational Manager for the San Jose Sting. He has coached baseball and softball for over 20 years. He has participated in organized sports since the age of five. Played baseball on an athletic scholarship at Allan Hancock College and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He was selected to the First Team All Western State Conference Baseball team as a freshman and sophomore utility player. Bob and his wife have owned the Sting for the past eight years and have been instrumental for their players where they have placed over fifty players into college the past four years. Their organization consists of 18 Gold, 16U, 14U and a 12U program. The Sting have had many top 10 finishes at the ASA Nationals including a 7th Place finish at the ASA 18 Gold Nationals in 2008.
Leo has been coaching softball for many years and we are excited to have him as our San Jose Sting 12U Head Coach. He has been the Asst. Softball Coach since 2005 at San Benito High School. During this time, the San Benito High School softball Varsity squad had earned four consecutive CCS Championships. In addition to supporting a very winning high school program, Leo has had success with several "A" ball clubs as well, including: (Manager) 1st Place at Norcals with 14U Hollister Heat 2007, (Manager) 10U 1st place at the Triple Crown World Series in Utah 2007, (Assistant Coach) 1st place at Norcals with 16U Strikkers 2008 and (Manager) 10U 2nd place at the Triple Crown World Series in Utah.
