Castilleja faced off with league rival Mercy-Burlingame and the Sting's own, Annie Apffel (14U-Schnell), gave Castilleja all the runs they would need to seal the deal! "Mercy-Burlingame is always our biggest competition in league and we still have to play them one more time."

The Gators now hold sole possession of first place over Mercy-Burlingame (1-1, 3-5), thanks to freshman catcher Annie Apffel's two-run single in the third inning.

"That hit by Annie Apffel was HUGE and, without it, we would have been in a bit more trouble," Albanese said.

Albanese said the early cushion took some pressure off and allowed her to focus on just closing out the game. All the strikeouts and near-perfect game were just a bonus.
